Website design require different fonts, this is because it is harder to read type on screen than in other circumstances. A range of fonts (web safe fonts) are used for the web to ensure legibility as some people/customers will just skim over your website. Not completely focusing on the type in front of them or the message you’re putting across.
When designing e-commerce solutionsit is essential to produce a professional website design outcome that will keep attract customers and keep them coming back. If the wrong typeface is used then this could change the outlook of your site to being hard to read and therefore awkward for the consumer to continue. Possibly losing there business to a competitor. The use of fonts that are widely available on most operating systems will allow your website to be readable on most computers. Serif fonts such as Times New Roman and Georgia are hard to read on a computer, but are of course perfectly suitable for a Print, where as Sans serif fonts, such as Verdana, Tahoma and Helvetica are ideal for a website design. A larger type size for the headings and a body copy of around 10 or 12 point.
Fancy fonts can be used for headings but as they will not be seen on everyone’s computer or operating system it is best to use these headings within images, this is good for catching the eye of potentional customers. There is downsides to this though, search engines read text and cannot read images so these images will not be picked up. So using web safe fonts instead can improve search engine optimisation.
