Designing a great product page for your ecommerce website is essentially one of the most important pages throughout the design since it contains all the product information and images that will sell and promote product. Here at advansys our ecommerce designers have broken down the core elements of an ecommerce product page to help you understand the structure.
Breadcrumb trail - A breadcrumb trail is essential for navigation so that the user understands where they are, and how to get back to related product and category pages. For example: Home > Product Category > Sub Category > Product Title.
Clear Title - Ensure product titles are short, effective and descriptive.
Clear Image - The image sells the product so ensure to include a clean, clear and large image of the product. Optimise for speed but don't sacrifice quality - Quality images are essential!
Additional images - Include alternative product views and package contents as smaller images below the main image. A user should be able to select these thumbnail images to view a larger version above.
Product Information - Include descriptive product information. This is often displayed in tabs to keep the website design looking clean and professional. Tabs can include: Description, Options, specs and user reviews. Keep the information keyword rich so its good for search engine optimisation.
Price - Price should be clear, of a contrasting colour, and be easy to read.
Add to Cart - The add to cart button is the most important call to action on the product description page. Ensure its easy to see and draws attention.
Availability - A good option is to include product availability, including either stock and/or delivery time-frame.
Options - If required, include product options such as colours or sizes. You can include multiple drop-downs but ensure to keep the design simple and clean so its easy for users to follow.
Quantity - Include a quantity drop down for easy selection, and remember to pre-populate with 1 to speed up the user process.
Similar Products - Include thumbnail images of similar, or related products. This encourages users to continue shopping, and aids in the selection process.
Rating - Another great option is to add a rating to the design. This is popularly displayed using 5 stars.
Sharing Links - A popular option recently is to include email and social network links so that a user can share product information with friends and family. Social networks promote your products this way, and encourage increased traffic.
