how to design the ideal ecommerce checkout
Here at advansys we are ecommerce experts, and design and develop ecommerce website designs with a checkout process. But what makes a good checkout process? We have asked our website designers to explain.
One thing that you need to understand when designing an ecommerce checkout process is that users don't have time, and don't like to click and read pages and pages. It's essential to streamline the process as much as possible, with as few pages as possible. Ask yourself these questions; what information do I need? And how can I make this easier for the user? Put yourself in the place of the user, and consider how you will use the web design.
The advansys ecommerce solutions use the following checkout process; View your items (shopping cart), enter your details, confirm and pay and order complete. This keeps the information compact, and ensuring that the bulk of data entry is kept to a single page checkout. These processes are explained below:
View your items (Shopping cart)
Although technically this is not directly part of the checkout process, it's actually the first screen you may see before a user starts the checkout process. This page will display a summary of the items added to the shopping cart.
Enter your details
This is where the user will either log in or register their details. If however a user is already logged into their account, the ecommerce solution will bypass this page.
Confirm and Pay
This is where the user will confirm their chosen items, then enter their delivery address and payment details. On this page the user can also enter any special instructions.
Order complete
This final stage of the process completes the checkout process, confirming the order is complete. An email will also be sent to the user, confirming the purchase.
