Mobile devices and phones have come on in leaps and bounds with many manufacturers having had their profits severely mauled by Apple and the iPhone’s domination of the mobile market. Certainly what has driven this dramatic shift away from the traditional manufacturers of mobile phones is the iPhone’s take on mobile internet, shifting away from proprietary methods of navigation to simply enabling users to browse as they always have done on their computers.
The ease with which the latest generation of mobiles surf the web (for most manufacturers have now released an iPhone competitor) is certainly what has driven the increase in mobile ecommerce. While this field has yet to be fully exploited as yet it is accelerating in take up. Apple’s Apps store makes up a good percentage of these sales and may be pointing the way forward for mobile ecommerce with registered cards reducing the possibilities for intercepting card details during submission and allowing for a streamlined payment process more suited to buying on the fly.
Mobile ecommerce of this kind may not be suitable for all product types and for this reason it is sure to become a sector that is considered in its own right, separate from ecommerce websites that work well on mobile devices.
Advansys is very excited by the possibilities of this sector and we look forward to being at the cutting edge of mobile ecommerce development.
