Google’s new ecommerce channel on youtube is ostensibly aimed at helping its current customers through the process of setting up and utilizing the Google e-commerce tools. With video tutorials, feedback and tips and tricks the video channel should be a major boon to those using Google checkout and other merchant tools to make more effective use of the facilities.
Many retailers are beginning to look very seriously at these tools as they provide extra selling channels and alternative payment systems for their customers but it will be interesting to see how this new channel does at pulling in these new Google ecommerce clients, especially in light of the fact that the content for this channel will be determined by requests and queries. This tactic is sure to enhance the engagement of Google’s ecommerce clients but it may mean that the channel is not as effective as a sales tool.
Whatever the result of this enterprise it is a sure sign that the biggest players in the online world are taking social media, and customer engagement, very seriously indeed and this stands as an example to all etailers to make sure that they take the opportunities offered by social media to enhance their customers engagement and increase their sales.
