In the world of Search Marketing, i.e. The Internet, content is King. Without Content no search engine will ever understand what your website is about or present it to any searcher. This may not be such devastating news to the millions of webmasters out there who just made a nice little site about their cat, but it is something to stop and think about when we are talking about the major route of your business to reach customers and enable direct sales. For an ecommerce website, Content is God.

Of course content on an ecommerce website is not just there to pull in traffic from search engines, it is also required to inform, to educate and to sell. Balancing these needs of your content can be tricky but here are 5 tips to help you along a bit and make you eCommerce Website a success for your business.

  1. Include the dull stuff
Product names, brand names, part numbers, all must be somewhere on your product page, Create a standard header that includes the boring stuff for each product but keep it short. If your CMS lets you pick styles, or to edit the text then create a style that makes this information a little less prominent than your fun text.

  2. Include the fun stuff
Every product has a USP, a unique selling point. Search round the web or just play with the product for a little while, list its uses keeping in mind the search terms for this product. The more engaging this text is the better as it will enhance desire for the product.

  3. Engage your customers
Body text on your site increases its visibility. So include paragraphs on category pages and create pages of useful content to increase the level of text in your site. The more information you give out the more you look like an authority on this selection of products.

  4. Use a blog to highlight updated products and content
Blogging is the perfect way to increase your content and to increase the flow of walkthrough traffic. Just don’t be serious; this is the ecommerce webmaster’s equivalent of having a chat with a customer while leaning on the shop counter.

  5. Its fun, but it needs to make money
Money is made by sales and sales are increased by pulling in more visitors. Good fun content will increase engagement and conversions but so that you get this traffic always keep your keywords in mind.
