When working on the design of your website its good to see what's already out there in the world, and get some good inspiration for what you want to do with your own design. People sometimes see this as copying, however it's purely a way to see what you like, and to get the best idea possible. Website designers and developers do this frequently, and would recommend this technique. I have put together a list of ideas where you can go to get that all important inspiration for your website design.
Research your competitors website designs - note down what's good, and what works well. It's also a good idea to note down what you don't like.
• Break outside the box and look at other companies. Google is a good tool to use. Think about what quality of design you want. Cars are often good to look at as differences are clear in the website design. Look at how they use colour, images and text. Again, note down what you like, and don't forget to also note down where you seen this so you can refer to them later on. Its often good to take a screenshot to refer to later.
• Don't just look on the internet - Many ideas can come from books, or objects. Shapes, layout and ideas are all around you.
