One of the very early stages of designing your website and corporate identity your very likely to be thinking about the use of colour. What colours you use and will they work well together?
Its very important that your choice of colour works in harmony together as there's nothing worse than a website design with a colour scheme which clashes, or text that's just impossible to read. There are a few pointers however that I can recommend to help you make the best colour choice for your brand identity and website design.
This is the first of two blogs. This one will cover the choice of primary colours. The second will cover the secondary colour palette.
The primary colour (s)
With almost every corporate identity there is one or two colours that are used over all others and is called the primary colour(s). This choice of colour will shape the choice of the secondary colour palette, and form the brand identity and logo design, so is most important.
There are 4 primary colours: Blue, Red, Green and Yellow. Each colour can give a different response from its viewer so is important that it reflects the company brand.
• Blue - Blues are cold, however calming and relaxing.
• Red - Reds are on the other end of the spectrum. They symbolise anger and danger, or love and passion.
• Green - A calming colour which relates to nature and wildlife.
• Yellow - A refreshing colour which brightens the mood, makes people laugh and smile.
Use a mixture of these colours to gain the correct response from the viewer.
It's also worth taking into consideration that some colours may instantly relate to your industry, so will make the choice for you easier. The easier the colour relation to your company, the better so it's worth spending the time to get this right.
Now that you have your primary colour selection you can easily create your secondary colour palette, which will work perfectly with your primary colour choice. I will explain some good tips to aid your decision in part two of this blog.
