When a new company is set up it's likely that you will need corporate business stationary. The most cost effective option is to get a large amount printed, therefore you want to get the design right first time. This blog has been written to help you focus on the information you may need to include and the types of things you need to consider before anything is actually printed.

So first of all you need to consider what information you want on your business stationary. Your business stationary is your own and should be unique to your company, however there the following information is generally standard on the design:

•    Your address (more than one if necessary)

•    Your logo

•    Website URL

•    Telephone numbers

•    Fax number

•    A VAT registration number

•    Slogans / Tag Lines

•    Date / References

•    Are you a member of an Institute or Federation - if so include logos if necessary

Now you have the information you want on your business stationary you have a lot to consider. The layout can vary dramatically dependant on the type of message you want to get across. Consider the following:

•    Ensure to reflect your corporate brand in your design. Business stationary will be seen by many of your customers so should clearly be distinguished from others. Having a traditional, classy, modern or a funky artistic style will vary your brand design dramatically so its important to know what image you want to get across.

•    Do you want black ink on plain white paper or would you prefer some colour? (Even the use of a little colour can significantly enhance the overall look of your letterhead). Using one or two colours will reduce printing costs so worth considering.

•    Do you want to use a coloured paper (rather than plain white) for your letterhead. Again this must reflect your image, but worth considering as it can change the look of the design quite substantially.

•    Do you want to include an image, logo design or picture? If you do decide this, try to keep it simple as you will be printing on this, and you do not want to distract from the type.

Once you have your design, don't forget about the second and subsequent pages! These are known as 'continuation pages'. This can reflect your design, but not include all information included on the first page. People sometimes use plain sheets of paper for this to reduce costs.
