It's a boy! It has been less than 48 hours since the birth of His Royal Highness, and the world has officially gone baby made. Within minutes of the official announcement being put up outside Buckingham Palace, ecommerce websites heralded the arrival of the Royal baby.
How Will The Royal Baby Affect Ecommerce Sales?
When the news of the birth emerged at 8:30pm on Monday 22nd July, 90 minutes later the first Royal Baby themed marketing emails hit global mailboxes. Priming production lines and readying their pink and blue paintbrushes, businesses all over the globe have been anticipating the birth of Prince William and Catherine's baby.
Over the next eight weeks, it is estimated that we will spend £243 million on regal memorabilia, with an expected:
- £87 million to be spent on celebrating the Royal birth
- £80 million on souvenirs
- £56 million on toys
- £24 million on DVDs, books and media
Manufacturers of the Royal pushchair, Bugaboo, are also predicting a boost in sales of up to 13%, while those behind the Royal baby clothes and toys are also expecting a rise in sales.
Within hours of the announcement, the Early Learning Centre had released their gender-neutral 'Royal Baby Happyland set' which featured William and Kate figurines and a royal pram. Mothercare was also quick off the mark with their Royal Baby collection. Available in store and on their ecommerce website, this features “Rule the World" bibs, baby-grows and soft toys.
For those planning on flying through Heathrow in the next few days, look out for the free commemorative gift bags being given out. For the first 1,000 people to arrive in each of the terminals, Heathrow will give a gift hamper filled with Walkers shortbread biscuits and Twinings Tea.
If you were lucky enough to have your own baby on the same day as the Royal birth, you can also claim a free silver penny from the Royal Mint.
